The night of my birthday party was supposed to be filled 80's jams and Murder Mystery fun, but instead it was icy out and the weather only planned to deliver more ice and unpredictable weather the rest of the evening. With the weather on the rocks I decided to move my party to New Year's Eve. That was a great call because we had an amazing time! If you remember from previous posts the party wasn't just 80's themed but it was an 80's themed murder mystery party. The Murder High Reunion Mystery from www.thenightofmystery.com was a kit that my mom gave me to use for my party. It comes with everything you need and ideas to make your murder mystery party a ton of fun. As guests arrived they were greeted and asked to grab sunglasses and take some pictures. After pictures guests were given all the information they needed to start the Murder High Reunion. They were given an envelope with their character's name tag, notebook and pen to take notes of clues, money (for bribery), and their first set of objectives to tell them what to do and say. The living room was decorated with 80's posters, pac man swirly hanging cut outs and a candy buffet filled with 80's candy-a definite blast from the past. After a welcome from one of the characters, guests were asked to mingle to complete their objectives. They needed to get to know each other and find out any secrets characters might be hiding. Once most people had completed their objectives dinner was served. Dinner was a Nacho Bar complete with 3 different types of nacho chips, beef and chicken, and all the toppings. Dessert was donuts and cupcakes displayed on two record cake stands. (See previous posts for the DIY instructions for the record stands.) Here are some of the other 80's DIY party decorations that were around the house for the event. There were record bowls filled with chips, cracker jacks and cheese puffs. Table centerpieces were CD's with cassette tapes and tea light candles. On the sides of the candy buffet stood two giant size rubix cubes. Okay on with the party... After dinner the "murder" occurs and characters begin questioning each other. This was the best part of the party. Secrets were being revealed left and right and money was exchanging hands to keep people from talking. Once most people were finished we played a few rounds of 80's BINGO. Guests were given BINGO sheets to fill out from a list of 80's movies and music. Clips of songs were played and quotes from movies were read and guest yelled BINGO once they had covered squares horizontally, vertically, diagonally and four corners. After BINGO guests were given "Who Dunnit" sheets to accuse a guest of being the murder and to vote for the wealthiest guest, the best performance and best dressed. Prizes were given for all categories. The party was so much fun. It was a blast to plan and even more fun to attend. I used this party to not only celebrate my birthday and the New Year but also to celebrate the launch of my event planning buisness: Creative Celebrations LLC Event Planning. It's in its early stages, but I am very excited about where this venture will take me. I'd love to hear about a themed party you have attended or planned. Let's trade ideas and tips to make our next parties a "Creative Celebration".
