There's nothing like Christmas Eve at home with my family. Before my husband and I had kids we would talk about what we did on Christmas Eve as kids and tried to come up with what we wanted to do with our own children. It's funny how actually having kids changes things. We have added things that we never did as kids. Some of our traditions include decorating a gingerbread house, making chocolate covered pretzels and watching the 24 hour A Christmas Story movie marathon that comes on television every year. Decorating gingerbread houses is my favorite Christmas Eve traditions. This year with my kids being 10 and 3 I think getting 2 houses is a must. We ususally buy our ginger bread house kits from Michaels. The kits we get usually have a pre-assembled house and all the candy and icing needed to decorate the house. Check out my pinterest @ creativeventsTB page for more gingerbread house ideas. Christmas Eve presents are something that my mom started with our kids. She sends her grand kids a box each year to open on Christmas Eve. In the box are pajamas and an ornament (and some years a Christmas book). Here is just one of the many Christmas Eve box ideas I have found. In the box you can place pajamas, a Christmas book or movie, cozy socks, popcorn or favorite snack and hot chocolate. What a fun way to celebrate Christmas Eve. My kids look forward to their Christmas Eve gift from Nana every year! CHOCOLATE...OH CHOCOLATE! I am a fan of Chocolate covered just about anything but I love chocolate covered pretzels. Here is a video on how to make chocolate covered pretzels. What a delicious way to kick off Christmas Eve! We end our Christmas Eve night the way all mankind should end their Christmas Eve nights, watching A Christmas Story marathon. This has to be the best Christmas movie ever made!! Some of our other favorites are The Polar Express and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This year we dedcided to do a regular gingerbread house as well as some 3-D foam houses. Jaxson my youngest built a nativity scene while my oldest, Jaylah, went for a candy sweet shop we bought from Michaels Store. They had a great time. Jaxson wanted to be sure we decorated a "regular" gingerbread house as well. I hope that you found some great ideas and that your Christmas Eve is filled with the magic only the Christmas season can give.
