Now Showing Sign One of the decorations I want to have for Jay's Movie Birthday Party is a Now Showing Sign. This was super easy to make. Materials: Black Foam Poster Board (I got mine from Hobby Lobby) Christmas lights or Poster lights (I got poster lights from Hobby Lobby) Chalk If you get the poster lights they come with a tool that punches through the board for you and then you place the lights in the hole. If you use Christmas lights ( I did one of each.) you can just poke the lights through the poster board from the back. Once all the lights have been placed or poked into the board all that is left is to write NOW SHOWING in chalk on the board. I had some gold letters I used for a craft at Christmas time so I used those on one of the boards. MOVIE REELS You can't have a movie party without movie reels as decorations. Materials: 12'' round cake board -Hobby Lobby Gray and black spray paint- Hobby Lobby Dark gray paint- Hobby Lobby spool from thread ( I used cleaned and empty individual applesauce container) After boards were dry I used a cup to draw circles on the board. Six circles are needed in all. Using the dark gray paint I painted each circle. To complete the reel I used a clean individual applesauce cup for the middle and glued the two boards together. I did the same steps for the gray reel. Here are the finished movie reels. Stay tuned for Scene #2 DIY Red Rope Stanchion...

Each year to celebrate the days leading up to Valentine's Day I write messages on hearts and tape them on the kids doors. Every morning they are excited to read the new message. With my little non-reader I write on each heart a family member or friend that loves him and we read them at night before he goes to bed. With Jaylah there is a scripture at the bottom of the heart and each heart is something we love about her. It's a quick easy way to let them know that we are thinking about them always and love them tons. What are some creative ways you count down to Valentine's Day??
My 10 year old said she wants to do a "Pajama Movie Party" for her 11th birthday. A kind of unslumber party as the kiddos will be going home at the end of the party. It's not until April but I thought I'd get a jump on the planning. Invitations Like a first impression invitations are important. They give you an idea of what to expect. We have tossed around a couple of ideas for invitations. Jaylah really likes the movie ticket idea and the VIP with lanyard idea. Decorations Our recently finished basement is perfect for her birthday party. It has two separate sections already divided into a kids space and a more adult movie viewing area. One side will be for food and games and the other for the movie watching. Decorations are going to start with the foyer. I love the idea of the red carpet to greet guests. I'll put gold stars on the carpet with the names of the guests that are coming. I'll also hang movie posters along the wall. The red rope stanchions DIY tutorials here. This movie Now Showing sign would be great for the entry into the basement area that the kids will watch the movie. We think the movie of choice will be Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass. Materials needed: Black foam core board Strand of Christmas lights White chalk pen I love backdrops. I always like a space dedicated to photo opportunities. It's so important to have a place to capture the memory. The ticket backdrop seems like a quick and easy idea. Movie reels should be apart of any movie night party. Here's a great Movie Reel DIY tutorial. Food Ideas Obviously there will be popcorn. You can't have a movie party without popcorn. A popcorn bar with a variety types of popcorn and toppings would be delicious for a movie. Somethingswanky.com has 50 + Perfect Popcorn Recipes Other food ideas are hot dogs, nachos and an assortment of drinks. Desserts We are generally a cupcake family. I found some cupcakes that look like popcorn that will be perfect for the party. Ingredients: Cake mix of your choice ( water, eggs and oil if the recipe calls for it) Icing Marshmallows Shears Cupcake liners Party Favors Party favors are one of my parts of planning a party. These party favors are the perfect thank you for coming to Jaylah's party. Check back soon as I begin the DIY portion of the party planning!

My little guy has his Valentine's Day Party Tuesday at school so of course he needs a box to bring home Valentine cards and candy. We went onto Pinterest (surprised!?) and found a lot of ideas. Prettymyparty.com has some adorable box ideas for girls and boys. Jaxson is a huge Paw Patrol and Batman fan so it came down to these two ideas we found. After searching, Batman seemed like the best option. Materials we used: Shoe box black construction paper Batman accessories Wooden letters Yellow paint X-acto knife Tape/glue gun While the letters were drying the next few steps were to cover the shoe box with black construction paper and cut a rectangle at the top for cards to go in. I glued the letters on the top of the box and glues/taped the batman accessories around the box. The final touch was the Batman mask. I couldn't figure out where to put it at first but I just wrapped and glued the velcro parts around the box. Here are some more Valentine box ideas from http://funmoneymom.com.
Hope your kiddo has fun decorating and creating their Valentine's Day box. (Hopefully next year when Jaxson is 4 he'll be more help!) Jaylah's party was less planning on my part this time. She wanted something active so we found Vetta Sports where she could have play kickball, dodge ball and soccer then spend time in their bounce house room. Many decoration items were bought at Party City. We did buy the wooden numbers 10 for Jaylah to paint for her table. The first part of the party was for the kids to enjoy time playing various games on the fields. This also gave us time to wait for kids to show up and decorate the party room. The next part of the party was spent in their bounce house room. The kids had an amazing time as you could have imagined. We ended the party with snacks (chips and drinks), cupcakes and singing "Happy Birthday" to Jay! HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAYLAH! CAN'T WAIT TO PLAN THE NEXT!
So I haven't posted Jaxson's 3rd birthday and how sad is it that he is going to turn 4 in May. I thought I'd better hurry up and post it before he's had another birthday. Jaxson's theme was all Avengers. We are huge Avengers fans! It's usually a Captain America vs Iron Man debate in our house. (GO CAPTAIN AMERICA!) Party City was my source for a lot of the decorations. Here are some pics! Jaxson loved the characters pictures hung up all over the living room. I always get the hanging swirly decorations to hang from the patio door and windows in the living room. My favorite part of any party is the food. It could be because I like to eat! I found lots of creative ideas for Avenger themed food on pinterest. Having a photo back drop has also become important to me. This is a place decorate with the theme for myself and others to take pictures and create some memories. Games are a big deal too. We wanted to make sure that the games were as close to super hero avenger themed as possible. We had some Spiderman potato sack races. They had a ball falling and trying to beat each other. We also had the Nerf guns and bow and arrows for the kids to pretend they were Hawk Eye and Black Widow. We gave them targets to shoot then there was just big Nerf War! We also had a Spiderman bean bag toss game and horse shoe toss game. Games were bought at Party City. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAXSON! CAN'T WAIT TO PLAN YOUR NEXT ONE!
Happy Sunday! I know that all of my posts have been about Valentine's Day, but I thought I'd take a quick break for all of those planning parties now or once the weather breaks. I want to give you some helpful party hacks that will make your next event easier for you and enjoyable for your guests. Balloons Floating from the ground would be a great addition to any outside party. Party Hack #2 Keeping food and drinks cold are always a struggle once the temperatures soar. Using a kiddie pool or an inflatable pool can be a unique and fun way to keep food cold. Party Hack #3 Pre-made party food This will make for easy food prep and less mess when serving the day of the party. Party Hack #4 Easy Photo Backdrops-to help make capturing memories even more special. Party Hack #5 Keepin it Clean! My least favorite thing to do is clean up after a party. Using these tips might make cleaning up a little easier. Use a pop up laundry basket or any wicker baskets lined with a trash bag. Visit my pinterest board for more Party Hacks, Tips, and Tricks.
